The Wolcottville, Indiana, community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Kaden Henry Lynn Wiese, 18, who tragically lost his life in a single-vehicle accident in rural LaGrange County on Thursday evening, July 23, 2026. His sudden passing has left family, friends, classmates, teammates, and neighbors grieving the loss of a young man remembered for his hardworking spirit, kind heart, and deep appreciation for the outdoors.
According to the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded at approximately 7 p.m. to the 2500 block of West 700 South near Topeka following reports of a serious crash. Investigators determined that Kaden was driving a pickup truck eastbound when the vehicle lost control, left the roadway, and struck a fence. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene. An 18-year-old passenger riding with him was not injured.
Authorities believe speed may have been a contributing factor in the collision, though the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Born on March 15, 2008, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Kaden was the son of Scott and Laura (Hart) Wiese. He was preparing to begin his senior year at Lakeland High School while also pursuing his passion for skilled trades through the welding program at the Impact Institute in Kendallville. Those who knew him admired his determination to build a successful future through hard work and dedication.
Kaden was also employed as a landscaper with Curb Appeal in Kendallville, where his strong work ethic and dependable nature earned the respect of coworkers and employers alike. He approached every task with enthusiasm and took pride in doing a job well.
Outside of work and school, Kaden found his greatest happiness outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, spending time with animals, and enjoying the simple pleasures of country life. Whether casting a line into the water, working in the yard, or enjoying time in the woods, he embraced every opportunity to be outside. His family fondly remembers his love for mowing the lawn and caring for his beloved cat, Cletus, whose companionship brought him endless joy.
During his years at Lakeland High School, Kaden participated in both football and wrestling, where he built lifelong friendships and earned the respect of teammates and coaches through his perseverance, sportsmanship, and positive attitude. He will be remembered as someone who was always willing to help others and who treated everyone with kindness and respect.
Kaden is survived by his parents, Scott (Melissa) Wiese of LaGrange and Laura (Trent Fordeck) Wiese of Wolcottville; sisters Kristen (Clayton McCollum) Wiese and Kloee Wiese; maternal grandfather Lynn Hart; paternal grandmother Cindy Yoder; niece Paislee Lacey; nephews Kannon Lacey, Weston Miller, and Maverick Miller; special friends Cameron Zervos, Hunter Ellinger, Bryar Alleshouse, and Greyson Miller; along with many extended family members and loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Colleen Hart; paternal grandfather, Sam Wiese; and paternal step-grandfather, Willie Yoder.
As news of his passing spread, tributes poured in from throughout the community, with many remembering Kaden for his infectious smile, compassionate heart, and unwavering loyalty to those he loved. Though his life was cut tragically short, the memories he created and the lives he touched will remain a lasting source of comfort and inspiration.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Tuesday, July 28, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at Young Family Funeral Home in Wolcottville. Funeral services will follow on Tuesday at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the family, with a designation to be announced at a later date.
